The Daniel Fast

For those of you who follow me on snapchat (fashionsplayg) you will know that from the beginning of this month I have been on a fast known as the Daniel fast. This is mainly to take my spiritual, physical and emotional health to another level.  This fast is based biblically on the book of Daniel, but I believe it is helpful for everyone (religious and non-religious) as a cleansing, or a way of cleaning up your diet for those of you who have set new year’s resolutions.

The Daniel fast food list includes the following:

1.     Beverages:- Water only, Almond/Coconut milk and vegetable juice
2.     Vegetables:- Can be fresh or frozen, preferably organic. Cannot be canned
3.     Fruits:- Can be fresh, frozen or dried, preferably organic. Cannot be canned
4.     Whole Grains:-Brown Rice and Quinoa. No Wheat such as bread or pasta
5.     Beans and Legumes:- Can be dried and cooked in water.
6.     Nuts and Seeds:- No added salt

Foods to avoid:

1.     Meat
2.     Dairy Products
3.     Coffee
4.     Candy
5.     Energy drinks
6.     Bread, pasta, cookies, crackers


I decided to do this month of fasting for the spiritual benefits such as breaking addiction and relying on God’s strength. However there are so many other benefits from this fast so I’ve decided to share a few recipes with you. This fast will help with healthy weight loss, healthy digestion, healthy skin, clearing your mind of negative thoughts and clearing out toxins that make you feel sluggish or depressed. Hope you all find it helpful.


Mackerel Vegetable Salad


Ingredients:

Mackerel(Optional)
Chicken(Optional)
Avocado
Tomaeto
Egg
Apple
Ice Berg Lettuce 
Red Leaf Lettuce
Peppers 
Cucumber
Onion
Carrots 


Directions: 

This is one of the easiest salads to make, all you have to do is boil the egg, chop up all the ingredients in to a bowel and mix. It's so quick and easy, I love making this before I have to go to work in the morning. It tastes so good guys, sometimes I eat it with salmon because the chicken is not ideal for this fast so I eat fish instead. It's up to you guys what to put in this salad, it's extremely flexible! Remember to buy organic vegetables for this recipe. 


I wanted to show you guys this salad dressing. I personally don't use it due to the ingredients, but for those of you who want to try and get used to eating salad I would recommend this dressing. My mum and aunt both love it, they converted from eating rice and pounded yam to salad, with the help of this dressing. (HERE)


Black Eyed Beans (Ewa) and Tomato Soup 


Ingredients:

Black Eyed Beans
Fresh Tomatoes 
Onion
Big Red Peppers
Hot Pepe (atarodo)



Directions: 

1. Put the black eyed beans in a pot and boil in Water only, leave to cook for 40-50mins (add more water when water dries out).
2. Blend the fresh tomatoes, onions, red peppers and hot pepe all together till smooth. 
3. Pour the red mix of fresh tomatoes, onions, red peppers and hot pepe into the cooked blacked eyed beans pot.
4. Cover and leave to simmer for 20-30mins

You can add seasoning of your choice as well as sweetcorn or fish. It's completely up to you. I like to eat mine with plantain, and corn on the cob which I boil in water. 



Fruit Salad 
 


Ingredients:

Grapes
Watermelon
Pineapple
Honey Dew Melon
Strawberries
Cherries
(All Organic)

Directions:

This is another very quick and easy combination that I eat for a snack during the day, for desert or for breakfast. I just cut up all the ingredients and put it in the fridge, during the week I pack some in a container and take it around with me to eat. It's honestly quite filling and really increases bowel movement. I would recommend that you guys find a good organic store near you. 

Breakfast With Almond Milk



I sometimes eat this if I have time in the mornings. I like the Jordans country crisp cereal (HERE) because it contains all natural ingredients such as oats, whole grains, almonds and hazel nuts. I don't eat it too often due to the high calorie content, but it tastes really good. When eaten in small quantities I'm usually full up for the whole morning. I'm looking for almond milk with more natural ingredients so if you guys know of any brand please let me know.
